Last week I talked about how one may be able to find low GI (Glycemic Index) foods on the road, in order to maintain a healthy fat burning zone. This week, I’d like to shine some light on how I manage to keep a healthy balance in my brain about food. It’s important when you begin eating a regimented diet, that you don’t also get too caught up in it and and become obsessed. Monday-Friday my intentions are to eat very specific meals, that I know fuel my day and keep my body nice and clean. On the weekends, I just let myself go with the flow of the day.
For example, we usually run to a different beat Saturdays and Sundays, so my goal is to allow myself the freedom to choose whatever I want to eat, according to the days plan and my mood. Typically I still choose pretty healthy meals and snacks, but I also don’t give myself any judgement if I go for the cheeseburger and fries. In fact, the less disciplined I try to be, the more disciplined I seem to become. These days I really don’t even have to try to loose body fat. If that’s my goal, I declare it to myself and the rest just follows!
I am always on the run. Every day confronts me with new schedules, challenges, and opportunities, and it’s in my best interest if I know how to just go with it. So for anyone out there who really wants to get in shape or stay in shape, remember to be gentle on yourself and know how to eat healthily wherever you may find yourself. Also, set your intentions for yourself, and then learn to let yourself indulge in anything you choose when the time is right. Hard work is more fun when we let ourselves enjoy it! Plus, you’ll get better long term results the less you cling to being perfect.
